Men’s College Cross Country Scholarships

Cross Country Scholarships are limited and it takes a superior runner with the drive and determination to stand out above the rest and earn one of the few available.  You need to start early by making sure you have the academic requirements, the right connections and an outstanding 5km finishing time.

There are so many fast runners at every high school and scholarships are only awarded to the fastest and most consistent times that are brought to a coach`s attention.  If a coach doesn`t know that you can run a 5km in under sixteen minutes than you can’t expect to be offered a scholarship for it.

Get a Men’s Cross Country Scholarship

If your hope is to be awarded a cross country scholarship then you need impressive finish times on a smooth standardized track.  Being the fastest in your division is the first step, but it also takes a solid grade point average, a reputation for being a fair and fierce competitor and a stronger relationship with potential coaches.

Tuition at most colleges and universities continues to escalate to sometimes daunting and unrealistic amounts that most middle class families cannot afford.  The more expensive schooling becomes, the tougher the competition for athletic scholarships.

Getting Noticed by Men’s Cross Country Coaches

Getting noticed by a coach starts with introducing yourself either in person or through a professional introduction letter and giving the coach a copy of your sports resume.  Coaches know the 5km and 10km times they expect to see and if your times are good enough, it will catch their attention.  Make sure to include an invitation to your next event, so they know where they can see you in action.

If you expect a cross country coach to take an interest in you, then you need record breaking times in recognized major competitions.  Make sure that you are competing in as many races as possible and push yourself so that you are finishing in first or second on every attempt.  If you win a few local charity or competitive runs you may gain some media exposure that could also catch the attention of a coach.

Improve your odds of earning a men’s cross country scholarship

In order to improve your odds, you put together a professional sports resume listing your attributes, your fastest race times and any major races that you have recently competed in and won.  It is also a good idea to include recommendation letters from your current coaches to show them that you are coachable and that you will be an asset.

Work on improving your 5km time and start working on building your relationship with college coaches as soon as possible.  The faster you are and the soon you are able to establish a solid relationship with a potential recruiter, the better your chances will be at them considering you for a cross country scholarship.
