Another important component if you need to earn a men’s volleyball scholarship is by demonstrating that you are a positive role model and a leader to the other volleyball players on your teams.  Scholarships are awarded to well-rounded talented players who have strong reputations for being hard working team players.

Getting Noticed by Men’s Volleyball Coaches

Make plans to visit the campuses of colleges that you are considering and try to schedule a few minutes with their men’s volleyball coach when you are there.  If you are fortunate enough to secure a few moments of the valuable coach’s time, you can invite him to come watch you play.  You have to sell yourself to the coach and impress him with a strong marketing package; if you are going to be able to talk him to watching you play an entire game.

If you are not able to secure time with a coach, hire an expert to help you!

Another way to get noticed by a volleyball coach is to create a video demonstrating your skills, with highlight clips and skill exercises.  A properly developed video will give the coach the ability to assess your talents from the comforts of their home or office at their leisure.  A coach would rather do that first before committing to travel and to watch an entire volleyball game of an unknown player.

Steps to improve your odds of earning a Men’s Volleyball Scholarship

If you want to improve your chances of being awarded a volleyball scholarship then you should be playing in club tournaments and attending recognized volleyball training camps.  It will help to build your sport’s resume if you can win skill competitions or the championship for your division.

Scholarships are only award to the hardest working athletes who have marketed themselves as potential leaders for a college level volleyball team.  Join camps, get exposure and work hard at improving your abilities whenever you can.  Just make sure that college coaches know about your accomplishments in a modest yet effective manner.

How many volleyball players were in Division 1 in 2010-2011?

In 2010-2011 there were 23 teams and 467 male volleyball players in Division 1.  It hasn’t changed much in twenty years, when there were 24 teams and 450 players in 1990-1991.

At division 1 colleges, there are only 112 scholarships for potential over 50,000 male high school volleyball players.

In 2010-2011, Division 2 volleyball consisted of 16 teams and 270 players, which grew significantly from only 10 teams and 120 players back in 1990-1991.
