Women’s Tennis Recruiting

Steps to be recruited and play women’s tennis in college

These are steps you should take in order to be recruited and play collegiate level tennis.

1)    Make sure you are aware of all of the recruitment deadlines, guidelines and academic requirements.

2)    Send out an introductory letter that explains your accomplishments to every potential college tennis coach.

3)    Work on your serve, your speed, and your ability to direct the ball anywhere you want to on the court.

4)    Find a recruiting professional to create an effective marketing package and highlight video that you can give to potential coaches.

5)    Build lasting relationships with college coaches.  Make sure you are always responding to their questions in a timely and professional manner.  If you are unsure of how to respond, then you should consult a recruitment expert.

6)    Sign up for tennis training camps, combines, and showcase around the country to gain exposure at the college level.

7)    Maintain an above average grade point average and study hard for your SATs.  Grades made if you want to be accepted into college.

How female tennis players are evaluated

Coaches will evaluate your performance record and your ability to win important matches.  Coaches recruit state champions who have won MVP or Player of the Year Awards.  The more accomplishments you can list on your sports resume, the more likely it will grab the attention of a college coach.

Academic requirements for women’s college tennis recruits

You could be the star player on your high school tennis team, but that does not guarantee you will be accepted into a college tennis program.  Your grades matter and coaches expect to see a 3.0 grade point average and a high school on your SATs.

Why college tennis camps matter

Tennis camps, combines and showcases also shows coach colleges how you stack up against tough competition.  You will be motivated to run faster and hit the ball with more force, so that you win tough matches when it counts most.  The better you can perform at a college tennis camp, the better your chances will be of being accepted to play at a good college.
